What’s the Process?

Using a digital scanner, your teen’s dentist will scan their mouth. The scanning process is fast and painless and avoids the need to take a plaster mold.

Next, the dentist will upload a picture of your teen’s mouth to a screen where your teen can see a 3-D image of their mouth. Then, your teen’s dentist will build a simulation of what their mouth will look like at the conclusion of treatment.

After your teen’s appointment, their dentist will craft a treatment plan and send the scans of your teen’s mouth to the Invisalign laboratory. After the lab finishes making your teen’s Invisalign aligner trays, they’ll be sent back to our dental office.

The Aligners

Your teen will receive Invisalign clear aligners made with the Invisalign system’s proprietary SmartTrack™ material, which is smooth and comfortable. Throughout treatment, you can check your teen’s compliance through an indicator on the aligner. Your teen will wear the aligners for 22 hours per day, but can easily remove them before meals, brushing and special events.

Will anyone know my teen is wearing Invisalign?

Because the aligners are practically invisible, most people won’t know your teen is wearing them.

How long will my teen need treatment?

It depends on what issues we’re treating, your teen’s age and how well they follow instructions. Most people wear Invisalign for less than two years, and some people may see results in as little as 6 months.

After Invisalign treatment, will my teen need to wear a retainer?

Yes, that’s because the teeth can revert to their former position unless a retainer is worn.

Can my teen play contact sports or certain instruments with Invisalign?

Yes, but we recommend that they wear a regular sports mouthguard while they’re engaged in their sport. Then they can put the Invisalign aligners in afterward. Likewise, if your teen plays a particular musical instrument they can remove the aligners while playing and put them back in when done.

How often will my teen need to come in for appointments?

Typically, your teen will need to come in every 4-6 weeks for progress checks.
